The First CNG Filling Station without Crew in Croatia

Macel Plin d.o.o. has started work on location in Slavonski Brod within the Contract signed with Brod Plin related to constructing the compressed natural gas filling station without crew. This will be the first in Croatia without a crew with automatic payment (card payment).

In Croatia, three CNG stations have been built recently. The station in Slavonski Brod will be the fourth, but only one, from the direction of Zagreb to Belgrade. This is also the fourth reference of Macel Plin Ltd. in Croatia, and we are very proud of it. Currently, one CNG filling station is located in Zagreb and operates the needs of ZET public transport. Another is in Rijeka (for public purposes) and Pula (only for public city transport). All CNG filling stations (Zagreb, Rijeka, Pula) have a crew, while a self-service filling station (without a crew) exists only in Slavonski Brod.

The grand opening

The grand opening and charging of the first vehicles on this innovative and modern CNG filling station in Slavonski Brod is for Spring 2021. It is an honor to be a part of the strategic development of Brod Plin and the city of Slavonski Brod. The geographical position of Brod-Posavina County provides two important traffic corridors. These are roads highway A3 Bregana-Lipovac and the interstate road from the border with Hungary to the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Europe has over 3,500 CNG filling stations—1,063 in Italy alone, and 868 in Germany. Of the neighboring countries, Serbia (25) has the most compressed natural gas filling stations, followed by Hungary (21), Slovenia (5) and BiH (3).

Capacity: The estimated capacity of Brod Plin’s CNG filling station is 325 m3/h of gas (approx. 230 kg / h). The average tank of our vehicle, a VW Up car (small city car) is 11 kg of gas, and for a VW Caddy (commercial vehicle) 26 kg. Due to the high gas pressure at that position and the output of 30 bar, the filling speed was accelerated to only 3.5 to 5 minutes for our vehicles. Also charging buses and trucks should not be slower due to the size of the tank.

Compressed natural gas (CNG), is an alternative fuel. It is a technologically processed natural gas compressed at 200-250 bar. As such, it takes up little space. It is a suitable fuel for cars, trucks, and public passenger transport. CNG has a higher calorific value than gasoline and diesel. As an alternative fuel, it also has cleaner combustion, and the engines are quieter than gasoline and diesel.

CNG is created by the technological processing of natural gas (99 percent methane). It is first removed from the network and then squeezed to 200 or more bars.
